UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) Exam Syllabus

General Information of UPSC Civil Service (Preliminary) Examination, 2024

UPSC Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination is conducted through two multiple choice type question papers. Both the question papers of this examination are conducted on the same day. Information about these question papers is given below.

General Studies Paper-I

Syllabus for General Studies Paper-I :-

• Current events of national and international importance.
• History of India and Indian National Movement.
• Indian and World Geography-Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
• Indian Polity and Governance-Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
• Economic and Social Development-Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector Initiatives, etc.
• General issues on Environmental ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
• General Science.

General Studies Paper-II

Syllabus for General Studies Paper-II :-

• Comprehension;
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills;
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability;
• Decision making and problem solving;
• General mental ability;
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. — Class X level);

Note 1 : Paper-II of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination will be a qualifying paper with minimum qualifying marks fixed at 33%.

Note 2 : The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type.

Note 3 : It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the Papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Therefore a candidate will be is qualified in case he/she does not appear in both the papers of Civil Services (Prelim) Examination.

• 1. Preliminary Examination
• 2. Main Examination
• 3. Interview (Personality Test)

Following is the method to download the syllabus from the official website of UPSC-

• First of all you have to search by typing UPSC in Google.
• In the search result, you have to click on the official website of UPSC ‘https://upsc.gov.in’.
• After opening the official website of UPSC, click on the option of ‘Examination Notifications’ on the right side of the home page.
• After clicking on ‘Examination Notifications’, a new page will open in front of you in which you have to click on the option of ‘View Archives >>’.
• Now a page will open in front of you in which the option of ‘Name of Examination’ and ‘Year’ will be given.
• In ‘Name of Examination’, you have to search by writing the name of your exam ‘Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination’ and in ‘Year’ you have to write ‘2024’.
• After searching, you will get the option of ‘Document’ in front of which there is an option to download PDF, by clicking on it you can download the PDF in which you have also been given the syllabus.
